KARACHI: Inquiry into blast, killing of JI leader ordered
KARACHI, June 1: Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has ordered judicial inquiries into the bomb blast at Madinatul Ilm mosque and the killing of Jamaat-i-Islami leader and a former MPA Aslam Mujahid. Dr Arbab was presiding over a high-level meeting held here on Wednesday to reviewed law and order, human and material losses in the bomb blast and the incidents that took place in the aftermath, and the situation resulting from the MMA’s strike call.
Dr Arbab directed the administration and heads of law-enforcement agencies to keep the law and order situation in the province, particularly Karachi, in control by maintaining a strict vigil on the activities of anti-state and anti-people elements.
He called for stringent measures to thwart the designs of those who were out to spread religious hatred and pitch people against each other.
He ordered effective security measures with beefed up force at all those mosques and imambargahs in Karachi which were vulnerable to confrontation or violence.
The chief minister lauded the sense of responsibility demonstrated by the policemen posted near the Madinatul Ilm mosque. He announced a compensation of Rs500,000 to be paid to the family of head-constable Raja Mohammed Arshad, who laid down his life in the line of duty, and a reward of Rs300,000 each for the injured policemen, Liaquat Ali and Taufiq Ahmed, who have also been promoted to their next grade.
The chief minister announced a compensation of Rs200,000 each for the people who died on the spot in the Madinatul Ilm blast and in KFC fire, and Rs50,000 each for all those injured in the incidents.
He impressed upon heads of law-enforcement agencies to ensure security of all government buildings and installations.
The meeting was informed that the people belonging to extremist religious organizations were involved in these incidents and that a reward of Rs2.5 million had been announced for those providing information about the elements behind these acts of terrorism.
It considered various steps for maintaining law and order and chalked out a strategy in this regard.
Those who attended the meeting included chief secretary, home secretary, IGP, CCPO Karachi, information secretary, heads of different organisations and officials of the concerned departments.—APP
