High Court stops fresh appointments in varsity

By Our Correspondent

BAHAWALPUR, May 20: The Lahore High Court, Bahawalpur bench, on Friday stopped any fresh appointment in the Islamia University till further orders. The order was issued on a writ petition filed by Academic Staff Association Secretary-General Prof Dr Shahid Naveed.

The court directed the respondent vice-chancellor and others to submit their parawise comments within four weeks. The case will now come up for hearing by the last week of July.

Prof Shahid Naveed, challenging the appointments being made by the university’s selection committee, argued that the appointments were against the stature of the university, and the contractual appointments could not be made by the committee.
