By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, May 3: A patient who was admitted to the Rawalpindi General Hospital on April 18 as a suspect case of Congo Crimean Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) has been confirmed to be suffering from the disease. However, the patient was lucky to have survived the infection and was discharged after 13 days.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) after receiving the results from South Africa communicated them to Prof (Dr) Abbas Hayat, head of the pathology department of the Rawalpindi Medical College.

The results revealed that the patient, Abdul Rashid, was CCHF positive.

Rashid, 25, was brought to the hospital from Mohalla Islampura, a Dheri Hassanabad neighbourhood in the cantonment, with high grade fever and severe bleeding.
