Fireworks injure six children

GUJRANWALA, May 2: Six children sustained serious burn injuries during a fireworks display at a marriage ceremony in Aimanabad on Monday. Reports said that some participants were displaying fireworks during the marriage ceremony of Waqas Ahmed, the son of lumberdar Barket Ali. Suddenly, some fireworks exploded near the children, causing burn injuries to seven of them. The injured children — Amirul Hasan, Muhammad Zaman, Shan Muhammad, Tanvir Husain, Imran and Wasim Mehmood were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital in critical condition.

Police are going into the matter. released: Four PPP activists who were arrested under 3-MPO some two weeks ago were released from the Central Jail here on Monday.

Those released included Hafizabad city president Malik Fiaz Awan and tehsil president Mohammad Bilal.

STABBED: A woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband over a domestic issue in Kotli Kumharan village on Monday.

Bushra Bibi was sitting in the compound of her house when Yasin attacked her with a knife and escaped. She died on the spot. Sadar police have registered a case.

RECOVERED: A bailiff of the district and sessions judge recovered a man from the Ghakkhar Town police station where he had been detained without the registration of any case and produced him before the court on Monday.

Complainant Mohammad Ali had moved the court and pleaded that his son was picked up by ASI Khurram who was demanding Rs10,000 for his release.
