Khalid Atlas crashes out

KARACHI, April 29: Pakistani youngster Khalid Atlas Khan fell in the quarterfinals of the Mega Italia Open squash championship to Italian top-seed Davide Bianchetti in Brescia, Italy on Thursday. Bianchetti outclassed Khalid 11-3, 11-6, 11-5 in 35 minutes to enter the semifinals of the world ranking tournament.

If Bianchetti is to claim his first Mega Italia title in Brecsia, he will have to overcome two Englishmen to do it.

He will now meet Scott Handley. Handley also enjoyed a straight games victory over a junior, the USA’s Chris Gordon.

The other semifinal will feature second seed Stacey Ross, who disappointed the local crowd by ending Luca Mastrostefano’s run in four games.

Ross’s opponent will be Daryl Selby, who overcame Zimbabwe’s Jesse Engelbrect 3-2 with an unusual-looking 7-11, 11-0, 11-0, 5-11, 11-10(2-0) scoreline in 59 minutes.—PPI
