KARACHI: Establishment of reporting centres discussed


KARACHI, April 29: Sindh Chief Secretary Mohammad Aslam Sanjarani Friday presided over a high-level meeting on establishment of reporting centres and police posts, and fixing of traffic signals within the limits of Karachi, with specific reference to existing needs in accordance with the population.

The meeting was attended by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, Home Secretary Brig (Retd) Nasar Hayat, Secretary Labour and Transport, DIG Traffic M. Yameen Khan, DIG HQ M. Akbar and EDO (Transport) Dr. Tahir Soomro.

A report of existing police stations and traffic signals was reviewed and discussed in the meeting.

It was decided that necessary renovation of existing 52 police stations would be undertaken, by following respective rules and regulations.

While discussing the urban traffic control system, it was decided that the Home Secretary would prioritise plan for installation of 115 emergency traffic signals out of the required 279 new signals.

The meeting also decided that PPO Sindh shall submit a scheme and master plan to the Chief Secretary, along with maps for developing and upgrading old and new police stations/ police posts and reporting centres, aimed at ensuring community participation. DIG HQ would chalk out scheme under consultation and guidance of Home Secretary, within a week.—APP
