By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 27: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday met a number of ambassadors and high commissioners of various countries and apprise them about the political situation in Pakistan. Sources told Dawn that the PPP leader remained a centre of attraction at a diplomatic reception which was hosted by the embassy of South Africa on Wednesday evening.

During his about 45-minute stay at the reception, Mr Zardari met a number of diplomats who mostly inquired from him about the incidents which took place on April 16 when he arrived in Lahore from Dubai.

Senator Farhatullah Babar, Senator Enver Baig and MNA Sherry Rehman were also present in the reception.

Earlier, the sources said Mr Zardari also called on the EU ambassador and the British high commissioner separately.

The sources said Mr Zardari briefed the envoys about the political situation and told them that the people of Pakistan demanded and deserved democracy. The PPP leader leaves Islamabad for Lahore on Thursday morning.
