Salman powers Eagles to victory in Twenty20 tie

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, April 26: Fine batting by Pakistan opener Salman Butt and devastating bowling by leg-spinner Sohail Ahmed helped Lahore Eagles to a narrow three-wicket victory against Sialkot Stallions in the Pool ‘B’ Twenty20 Cup match at the Qadhafi Stadium on Tuesday.

Chasing a target of 211, the Eagles were home off the final delivery of the match. The left-handed Salman blasted a breezy 67 that included seven fours and two sixes, while Waqas Ahmed scored a 25-ball 46 with the help of four sixes and couple of boundaries.

Earlier, Sohail picked up four for 20 while fellow leg-spinner Ali Azmat grabbed three for 23 but the Stallions still managed to put up a challenging total of 210 in 19.5 overs.

Former Test opener Imran Nazir showed glimpses of his old form with a belligerent 56 off only 19 deliveries. The right-hander struck five sixes and six fours.

Both teams, however, conceded 12 penalty runs for slow over-rate.
