JI to hold Islamic tribal jirga from 29th
PESHAWAR: Deputy chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Haroon Rashid has warned that if a military operation is conducted in North Waziristan on behalf of the US, it would have serious implications for the integrity of the nation. He was speaking to office-bearers of JI from different tribal agencies during a meeting held here at Markaz-i-Islami on Sunday.
The meeting was held to review arrangements for a tribal Islamic jirga scheduled to be held from April 29 to May 2.
Mr Rashid asked the federal government to avoid launching any operation in North Waziristan as desired by the US and said that it would have disastrous effects on the sovereignty of the country.
Talking about the jirga, he claimed that it would prove to be a milestone in providing basic human rights to tribesmen and lead to the abolition of the Frontier Crimes Regulations.
He added that the jirga would pave way for a political and economic revolution in the tribal areas.
Deputy general-secretary of JI, Fata, Zarnoor Afridi said arrangements had been finalized for the jirga. He claimed that thousands of tribal people would participate in it.
medical camp: More than 300 patients were examined at a medical camp in Hangu, Kohat district, on Sunday.
The camp was organized by a welfare organization in which the patients, most of whom came from refugee camps, were also given free medicines.
