HYDERABAD, April 23: An unpleasant incident at Milad-e-Mustafa chowk on Friday evening which marred the celebrations of Eid Milad-un-Nabi in which the proceedings of the main programme of the day were disrupted, leading to the registration of case against Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal MPA, Abdul Rehman Rajput and 12 other workers of Jamiat-e-Tulba-e-Islam.

However, elsewhere in the city the day was celebrated with religious fervour.

The incident took place when in an oblique reference to the MQM, Mr Rajput lashed out at the party for celebrating birthday anniversary of their leader in a colourful manner and then removing colourful lights from the city when Eid Milad-un-Nabi falls two days after MQM chief’s birthday.

He said that today Muttahida wanted to change the name of Islamic Republic of Pakistan into People’s Republic of Pakistan at the instance of their Jewish masters.

He further said that these people were also befooling people by celebrating Eid Milad by setting-up camps in the city.

At this stage around one dozen unidentified persons proceeded towards the stage while crossing the barbed wires and hurled abuses at those, sitting on the stage.

MMA’s MNA Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, Taluka Nazim City, Moinuddin Sheikh, Mohammad Hussain, the JUP leaders, Muhammad Qureshi, Qari Niaz, Ibrahim Sheikh and others were present.

The intruders threw two bricks towards the stage. However, no one was hurt. Then both the sides hurled abuses at each other which caused a stampede in the meeting, which otherwise, was about to end as people ran helter skelter.

City police station SHO Hassan Abid and other policemen rushed towards the stage, asking leaders not to make political speech.

JUP leaders blamed the police for failing to check the miscreants from resorting to violence. When Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, MNA, wanted to deliver his speech, police switched off the loud speakers. However, the MNA addressed the gathering. Senior police officers also rushed to the spot.

Later, the City police lodged a case against MPA Abdul Rehman Rajput and 12 other JTI activists.
