Token strike observed

PESHAWAR, April 21: Grade IV employees at the Khyber Teaching Hospital observed a token strike on Thursday to press for acceptance of their demands. President of the Grade IV Employees Association, Mohammad Naseer Khan Khalil, said the administration had deviated from the practice of employing sons of the deceased and retired employees.

He said the association had been demanding for eight months that the administration should appoint sons of retired and deceased employees.

“A few months back, the administration filled 80 posts that had fallen vacant after the death or retirement of employees, but only 25 of the posts were filled by former employees’ sons,” he said.

He warned that if their demands weren’t met they would launch three-day strike from Saturday.

MEETING: A general body meeting of the paramedical association was held here at the Khyber Teaching Hospital on Thursday.

The meeting expressed concern over the government’s apathy in approving the service structure.

Mohammad Ashfaq, president of the association, said that more than 10,000 paramedics in the NWFP and Fata had no service structure.

Some of the paramedics who had been appointed in BPS-6 got retired in the same grade after 30 years, he said.
