PPP men released

GUJRANWALA, April 17: All PPP workers who were taken into custody two days ago were released on Sunday. DPO Dr. Arif Mushtaq said these workers and their leaders were taken into custody when they were planning to stage a rally for Mr Zardari’s reception. Some 150 PPP activists, including a UC Nazim and Naib Nazim, were taken into custody and kept in various police stations.

DEMAND: The Commuter Associations of Cantonment, Ghakhar and Eminabad have urged the transport ministry to allow public vehicle owners to ply their vehicles on local routes as the franchized bus service has failed to provide better facilities to passengers.

At a meeting here on Sunday, association president Abdul Shakoor and Chaudhry Abdul Hamid said franchized buses were creating hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic on the GT Road within the city jurisdiction while passengers of suburb areas could not board these buses owing to a great rush. They said the wagons were suitable for local routes. — Correspondent
