Six of family die in accident

BAHAWALPUR, April 17: Seven people, including six of a family, were killed while three others injured in a road accident near Noorpur on Bahawalpur-Ahmedpur East road on Sunday. Police said families of Muhammed Amin and Lal Muhammed were going to Okara from Sadiqabad by a truck driven by Nisar Ahmed. The truck collided head-on with another truck near Noorpur and overturned killing Nisar, Amin, Lal, besides three women Dola Bibi, Saba Bibi, Zainab Bibi and an 11-year-old girl. Three other men Yousaf, Sakhi Sarwar and Mahmood were hurt.

Musafirkhana police have arrested the driver of the other truck Wajid Ali. The bodies were handed over to the relatives.

PPP ACTIVISTS: PPP district secretary-general Irshad Siroya and city president Shakir Mirza, who were arrested in Lahore, along with hundreds of other party activists, were reportedly still in police custody.

However, some other local activists who had gone to welcome their leader and somehow avoided arrests have started returning to the city.

Meanwhile, a number of office-bearers, who had been arrested in other cities of the district, were shifted to central jail.

Those sent to the jail included former finance minister Afzal Sindhu and party workers from Fortabbas, namely Shaukat Mahmood Basra and Muhammed Azam. The workers and office-bearers from Dunyapur lodged in the central jail included city president Kanwar Muhammad Saleem and his brother. Besides, two office-bearers from Ahmedpur East, Nawab and Yazman Afzal, detained under MPO-16 have also been shifted to local jail.
