HYDERABAD, April 17: The central president of the Sindh Hari Committee, Comrade Azhar Jatoi, has said that democracy will have no meaning without the abolition of feudal system and added that the property of Sindhi haris are being looted and all doors of employment have been shut for children of tillers of land.
He was speaking to members of the Central Hari council and newly-elected office-bearers of the committee after his own re-election as the president. He alleged that excesses were being committed by waderas against poor haris and their self-respect and honour were being violated. Comrade Azhar Jatoi said that instead of resolving the problems of poor people, the government was raising new issues to bring the people on the road to divert their attention from the real issues.
He said the salvation of the Sindhi people and their survival as a nation lay in implementing the programme of Baba-e-Sindh, Hyder Bux Jatoi. He said the network of hari movement laid by Baba-e-Sindh would have to be reorganised on modern lines.
He said smaller nations had already given their decision against the Kalabagh Dam and Greater Thal Canal and therefore, the government had no legal or moral right to go ahead with these projects.
Earlier, the Central Hari Council elected its office-bearers.
Sarmad Leghari, Allah Bux Lund, Zamir Lashari, Shah Mohammad Endhar, Mohammad Aslam Zounr, Akbar Jatoi, H.S. Bhurgari, Wajood Ali Shar, Amir Chhachhar and Jan Mohammad Baloch were elected senior vice-president, junior vice-president, general secretary, deputy general secretary, joint secretary, social secretary, treasurer, coordination secretary, press secretary and office secretary respectively.
RESOLUTIONS: The council adopted several resolutions demanding abolition of feudal system and distribution of land among the landless haris, elimination of water shortage, withdrawal of corporate farming ordinance and seed ordinance.
It further demanded that prices of fertilizers and pesticides should be reduced and the decision to divide the Hyderabad district should be withdrawn. The council demanded action against landlords who were committing excesses against the haris.
It further demanded that Tenancy Act should be implemented in letter and spirit and violators of the Act should be awarded exemplary punishment.
It urged the government to create job opportunities for the poor haris and ensure equal rights to all the federating units.
It stressed the need for creating industrial zones in interior Sindh and demanded that all the arrested political activists should be released. SPSF activists led by Mohammad Urs Solangi, Mukhtar Baloch, Murtaza Lashari and Javed Ahmad raised slogans against the Punjab Chief Minister and demanded his removal. He demanded that PPP leaders Safdar Abbasi, Naheed Khan and hundreds of others arrested by the Punjab police should be released.
They further demanded that fresh general elections should be held in the country and power should be handed over to the true representatives of the people.
Reports reaching here from Tando Mohammad Khan said that scores of PPP workers staged a protest demonstration outside the local press club against the arrest of the Hyderabad district general secretary of the party and former MPA, Amin Lakho and other party leaders from Tando Mohammad Khan by the Punjab police. They demanded that all the PPP leaders arrested by the Punjab police should be released without any further delay.
COMMENDATION: Chairman Wapda, Mr Tariq Hamid, has conferred commendation certificate on Mr Mehmood Ali Kaim Khani, deputy manager (commercial) Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco), for performing his duties diligently and with extreme devotion and dedication beyond the call of his normal duties during the quarter ending December 2004.
