KARACHI, April 15: The vice-chancellor of Federal Urdu University for Arts, Sciences and Technology on Friday withdrew the order of suspension of a senior teacher of the university. A university communication said that Vice-chancellor Dr Iqbal Mohsin took back his decision in regard to suspension of associate professor Asghar Ali on the request of chairpersons of various departments.
While pressure was already mounting on the university administration for withdrawal of suspension letter issued, along with a “final show cause” notice, to the teacher, the chairpersons of various departments had requested the vice-chancellor to review his decision in the larger interest of the university, said a source on the campus.
The decision would help return of academic normalcy on the two campuses of the university in the city, where students and teachers had already been expressing concern over the “disciplinary measures” taken against the teacher, added the source, saying that Mr Asghar was still required to reply under the show cause notice issued on April 12.
The university handout stated that the campuses of the university would reopen on April 18 and teaching and exams would resume as per schedule. After agitation by teachers at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal campus, the university had been closed for three days since April 14.
