KARACHI, April 14: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Thursday visited various parts of Lyari and taking notice of its poor sanitary conditions announced a special package of Rs50 million for its uplift. The governor supervised removal of tonnes of garbage from the main road of Lyari and asked the concerned officials to take steps for general cleanliness of the entire area.
He particularly stressed on revamping of old drainage and sewerage system of the area, besides laying a new one, and instructed that the new project costing Rs350 million should be completed within a month.
The governor announced a special package of Rs50 million for uplift of the area, which would be in addition to normal budget and the Tameer-i-Karachi funds.
On the instructions of the governor, a meeting was held to review the new drainage and sewerage project for Lyari. The meeting chaired by Principal Secretary Brig (retd) Akhtar Zaman decided that the tender for the scheme would be invited in seven days and after it’s processing the work would be started within a month.
Dr Ibad also visited other areas of the city and inspected the pace of the ongoing projects. He instructed that an underpass at the Schone Chowrangi should be completed by July 13.
He directed the utility services to get their lines shifted at the earliest so as to facilitate the construction of the said underpass.
The governor asked that alternate routes should be well marked to facilitate the citizens.
He was told that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had decided to link the Jinnah International Airport Terminal to the Shahrae Faisal by constructing an underpass.
During his recent visit, the governor had urged the CAA to take steps in this regard so that the area could be further developed and people could be benefited.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held to discuss various suggestions to streamline traffic flow between the Nursery and Chanesar Halt and it was decided that an underpass would be constructed there. The federal departments would fund this project. It was instructed that work on this project should be initiated soon so that the traffic pressure on this section could be eased.
The governor also instructed that consultancy work should be completed for constructing an underpass or overpass on the Shahrae Faisal near the Jinnah Hospital road intersection.
He stressed that this project be given priority so as to facilitate people’s easy access to the NICVD and JPMC for medical aid in minimum possible time.
