BRUSSELS, April 14: The European Union’s executive arm hopes China will impose voluntary restrictions on its textile exports by June if the EU opens a probe on April 25 into a surge of imports from the Asian giant, a spokeswoman said on Thursday. “Our objective remains that China will take self-restraint measures within those two months,” European Commission spokeswoman Claude Veron-Reville said.
The EC said earlier Thursday it hoped to decide on April 25 whether to launch an investigation into surging Chinese textile imports, the first step towards applying limits allowed under WTO rules.—AFP
