DERA GHAZI KHAN, April 11: The district police have failed to take any action against human smugglers even after a recent incident in which a woman was rescued at the last moment from traders. The most recent incident took place in Saddar police station precinct in which a woman was rescued by Dera Tehsil Naib Nazim Hafiz Khalid Rauf. According to reports, the Naib Nazim helped Asghar Ugani to marry Ramzana, a resident of Hafizabad, without realizing the man’s motives and alleged deal with human smugglers. However, the Naib Nazim rescued the woman when she told him that she was married back in her district with an infant.
Later, Asghar claimed that he had purchased Ramzana from smuggler Lakhu of Toomi Khosa whom he paid Rs50,000. The Nazim handed over the girl to a judicial magistrate, who sent her to Darul Aman when her parents and husband did not come to take her back.
It is matter of concern that neither ASP Ehsan Manzoor nor District Nazim Jamal Khan Leghari took notice of the alarming human trade, which is on the rise in the settled area.
When contacted, ASP Ehsan Manzoor, who is responsible for maintaining law and order, told this correspondent that there was no complainant of human smuggling in the area.
It is pertinent to mention that crime against women is on rise in the jurisdiction of Sadder police station.
Known figure, including District Bar President Malik Faiz, Dera chamber of commerce and industry SVP Zahid Nizam, Jamaat-i-Islami District amir Hafiz Khalid Rauf and tehsil amir Sheikh Usman Farooq, have urged the government to check the practice.
Councillors: District council members on Monday took control of the Naib Nazim office who, according to Nazim Jamal Khan Leghari’s claim, had tendered resignation.
Council members Tariq Khan Khetran, Manzoor Khan Qaisrani, Mushtaq Bughlani, Sadiq Birmani, Hashim Shah and other took control of the office of Naib Nazim Javed Iqbal Qaisrani in his absence.
It is reported that Javed Qaisrani had tendered his resignation to prove his loyalty before the district Nazim, but the latter immediately accepted his resignation and sent it to the election authority for further process.
Meanwhile, the Nazim and other members have called a council meeting on April 13 to discuss the prevailing situation.
