KARACHI, April 10: Saeed bin Nasir failed by a solitary run to reach a superb century on Sunday as Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) thrashed National Bank by seven wickets to emerge as Pool ‘B’ leaders in the Patron’s Cup one-day competition.
Saeed, who has been in tremendous form throughout in the past week, needed six to reach the three-figure mark with the scores level but only succeeded in pulling leg-spinner Rahman Qadir for four that took him 99 off 84 balls in the last-round match played at the Qadhafi Stadium in Lahore.
KRL used up only 37.2 overs to reach their target of 243 with Saeed and pinch-hitter Saad Janjua leading the way. The pair added 96 for the third wicket before Saad was out for a 69-ball 82, trapped leg-before by medium-pacer Mohammad Zahid.
Zahid, a relatively newcomer, had a day which he would like to forget since he gave away as many 90 runs, including 20 in his final over when Saeed hit 6,4,2,4,4,2.
Earlier, half-centuries by Qaiser Abbas (62 off 83 balls, eight fours) and Mohammad Javed (51 off 43 balls, four fours and one six) helped the bankers to 242 for nine.
