‘Woman burnt by in-laws’

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, April 9: A woman is fighting for her life in the Khyber Teaching Hospital’s burns ward after her in-laws allegedly set her on fire over a domestic dispute, it is learnt.

Family sources said that Shakila was married to Zafar Iqbal, a resident of Kalari in the Rawalpindi district, almost a year ago. Sometime back, she developed suspicion that Zafar had illicit relations with the wife of his brother.

On April 1, Shakila’s mother-in-law and her sister-in-law whom she suspected of having relations with her husband got infuriated with her accusation. They allegedly sprinkled kerosene on her and set her afire, leaving her with serious burn injuries.

Three days after the incident, her brother Hussain Khan, a resident of Akbarpura, brought Shakila to Peshawar. She was admitted to the Khyber Teaching Hospital with 75 per cent burns. Her condition was reported to be serious.

Police officials at the casualty ward registered the complaint in the daily diary and started investigation into the case.
