Anomalies in POL pricing mechanism questioned

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 6: The sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources questioned anomalies in the pricing mechanism of petroleum products in the country at its meeting at the parliament house here on Wednesday. The members of the sub-committee raised questions about the pricing mechanism, with particular emphasis on the prices of motor spirit and diesel.

The committee pointed out the existing anomaly in the pricing mechanism and directed the Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC) to explain it in its next meeting in Karachi.

The committee members were of the view that consumers should be provided relief as prices of crude oil and petroleum products were speedily rising.

The committee asked the government to decrease levies on petroleum products and develop alternative energy resources to enable consumers to have different options of energy use.

The meeting was attended by chairman of the committee Senator Dilawar Abbass and other senators, including Mohammad Sarwar Khan, Mohim Khan Baloch, Rukhsana Zuberi, Saeed Ahmed Hashmi and Dr Ismail Buledi, besides representatives of the ministry of petroleum, OCAC, PSO and Shell.
