KARACHI, April 5: Only 34 overs were bowled on Tuesday as the first unofficial Test between Sri Lanka A and Pakistan A at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy was interrupted by further delays because of poor weather conditions.
When play on the second day got under way at 2.15 in the afternoon, the home team added 66 runs to their overnight score of 35 for one before losing three wickets in 13 balls.
Overnight batsmen Michael Vandort and Ian Daniel were followed in the pavilion by Russel Arnold as Sri Lanka A slipped to 89 for four. Vandort, having added 17 to his Mondays score of 14, was caught behind by Zulqarnain Haider off paceman Mohammad Asif.
Daniel, overnight six, struck six fours before medium-pacer Yasir Arafat bowled him. The second-wicket partnership between Vandort and Daniel was worth 71 runs.
Arnold, the ex-Test left-hander who was tremendous nick in the triangular tournament, fell for just two by providing Yasir his second wicket of the day.
However, skipper Jehan Mubarak (10) and Malintha Gajanayake (3) held on until bad light ended play for the day at 5.02pm.
With only two days remaining, a draw is the most likely result since more rain has been forecast.
