FAISALABAD, April 5: Police rounded up former PML-N MNA and Central Anjuman Tajiran Pakistan president here on Tuesday on charges of forcing traders to close their shutters, blocking traffic and damaging public property on the eve of the MMA’s strike. Reports said a police team in plainclothes intercepted the car of Mian Abdul Mannan on Madina Town Road when he left his house in the morning. He was immediately shifted to Saddar police station.

Later, the team took Mr Mannan to the Jhang Bazaar police station and made entry of his arrest in a case registered against MMA local leadership under Section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act, 16 MPO, 188, 427 and 440 of the PPC for creating a law and order problem.

The police after a couple of hours of his arrest presented Mr Mannan before the anti-terrorism court for getting physical remand, but the judge sent the former MNA to the district jail on two-day judicial remand and ordered the police to produce the accused before the court on April 8.

Meanwhile, deputy opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly, Rana Sanaullah Khan and others criticized the arrest of Mr Mannan.

MMA PROTEST: The MMA has announced a country-wide protest movement from April 8 if its activists were not released before the deadline.

This was said by Punjab JI Naib Amir Azhar Iqbal Hassan while speaking at a news conference here on Tuesday.

He said the activists were arrested just to blackmail the MMA leadership to stop it from the anti-government movement.

He claimed that the days of the government had been numbered.

SHOT DEAD: A man shot dead his wife over a family feud in Naimatabad here on Tuesday.

Police said Muhammad Yousaf opened fire on his wife Sahib Bibi killing her on the spot.
