KARACHI: Two UTPs die in civil hospital

KARACHI, April 5: Two under-trial prisoners died in Civil Hospital on Tuesday due to ailment, the police said. Ismail, 60, was admitted to Civil Hospital where he breathed his last in the morning. Police did not issue details about Ismail. However, they said Mohammad Shahid, 23, arrested in a robbery case with a TT pistol by Shamim Shaheed police, complained about pain in his chest. He was admitted to Civil Hospital where he died in the afternoon.

Police said Shahid was a resident of Jehangir Road, and his family was informed about his death. “We will hand over his body to his family after legal proceedings”, a police official said.

Contrary to the police claim, the hospital sources said Shahid was subjected to torture as marks were evident on his body.

ROBBERY: Robbers stormed into a bank branch in Jamshed Quarters police limits and decamped with Rs0.5 million.

Police said three robbers entered the Nishtar Road Branch of the National Bank of Pakistan, made the staff and visitors as hostage at gunpoint and looted Rs506,000.

A bank official Syed Jaffar Raza Zedi got a case registered with the Jamshed Quarters police.
