ARD, MMA united against dictatorship: PML-N leader

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, April 4: PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq has said the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) will remain united in their fight against dictatorship. Speaking at a district convention of his party here on Monday, the PML-N leader assured his colleagues that there was no rift in the ranks of the opposition, adding that even the Pakistan People’s Party would not strike a deal with the government.

Criticizing the government, he said, it was not cognizant of the problems being confronted by the common man. While making tall claims of a strong economy, the rulers fail to remember that the country’s poor people are even struggling to feed themselves, he added.

He referred to an incident in Islamabad wherein a labourer died of hunger as he had been without work for several days. He questioned who was responsible for this.

Giving them glad tidings of a bright future of the PML-N, Mr Haq urged the workers to remain united under the party flag for the restoration of democracy and making the country secure and prosperous.

On the occasion, PML-N parliamentary leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called for a struggle to force the government to meet the opposition’s demands.

He was of the opinion that the government would not accept the demands presented to it politely and would rather have to be forced to accept those through a united struggle.

Mr Khan asked the party workers to do a bit of soul searching and see who did what for the sake of the party and democracy.

He reiterated the opposition’s long-standing demand regarding President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s uniform. “If he (Gen Musharraf) is committed to doing politics, he should quit the military office,” he said.

In the long run, he said, the PML-N would emerge victorious.
