HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Nazim may move court

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, April 4: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has decided to consult his party – People’s Party Parliamentarians — before moving the court against the division of Hyderabad district. Talking to Dawn by telephone from Karachi on Monday night, he said he would approach the court if allowed by the party. “I am obviously disappointed because neither President Gen Pervez Musharraf nor the National Reconstruction Bureau heard my viewpoint”, said the nazim. He added that the president and the NRB should have at least discussed the issue before approving any such step.

He said that he would not move the court against his removal as the nazim but he would certainly do so against the divison of of the district provided he was allowed by the party.

He said he had been opposing the district’s division from day one and calling for formation of a city district government, comprising 17 talukas.

He said it appeared that each district had been created for one single MNA. Therefore the same formula should be applied in the whole country. “It cannot be described as an administrative approach of the government, if I put it simply”, he said.

He said the rest depended on political and social organizations how they would take the issue.
