HYDERABAD, April 4: The Government Secondary Teachers Association has lashed out at the chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad, for changing invigilators of class IX and X examinations. Speaking at a meeting held here on Monday, district office-bearers of the GSTA alleged that this had been done to please members of a political party which had resulted in huge losses to the board.

They observed that according to the board rules, external duties in examinations were to be performed by high school teachers on seniority-cum-rotation basis. They said according to the rules, senior teachers were appointed for supervising class IX and X examinations, scheduled to start from April 5. However, they alleged that to please workers of a political party, the duties of the external examiners were changed at the eleventh hour.

The meeting, presided over by Mohammad Safar Memon, alleged that the new external examiners were neither high school teachers nor were their names mentioned in the seniority list.

Condemning the attitude of the board chairman, it demanded that the illegal appointments of the external examiners should be cancelled forthwith.

It warned that if the appointments were not cancelled, the responsibility for consequences would rest with the chairman because teachers could resort to extreme measures to protect their rights. The board chairman could not be contacted.
