COCHIN, April 2: India’s Virender Sehwag said he was in the best form of his life after slamming his seventh one-day century in the first match of the six-game series against Pakistan on Saturday.
The opener scored a 95-ball 108, sharing a 201-run stand for the third wicket with Rahul Dravid, who scored 104, as India cruised to an 87-run victory.
The 26-year-old had aggregated 544 runs in the three-match Test series last month, including scores of 201 and 173.
“In the last five or six innings alone, I’ve scored more than 600 runs,” said Sehwag. “I’m extremely confident about my game right now. Of course I’m in the form of my life.”
Sehwag, who hit nine fours and three sixes, said the hot and humid conditions had caused problems.
“The conditions were very difficult because of the weather, it was very hot,” he said. “Getting a good knock in such a situation is always special. It will give me even more confidence.”
Sehwag was fortunate to survive early on, dropped on nought and eight, but the explosive opener dismissed the lucky breaks.
“Chances are a part of the game. What’s important is how you utilise them. I did that today,” he said.—Reuters
