KARACHI, March 21: An absconder and one of the close associates of the notorious Rehman Dakait gang was killed in an encounter in Lyari on Monday morning.

Police said that on tip off about the presence of the suspect, Rais alias Raisu, along with some other gangsters, at a specified place near Niazi Chowk, the Industrial Crime Unit comprising DSP Aslam Khan and DSP Irfan Bahadur rushed to the area. As they reached the area, they were fire upon. An encounter with the assailants ensued during which Rais suffered fatal injuries, the police claimed.

One kalashnikov with several rounds were recovered from his possession, the police said, adding that about seven accomplices of Rais managed to escape into the narrow lanes of the densely populated area.

Rais was wanted in about a dozen cases, the police said, and recalled that a few years back, he had escaped from the city courts lock-up.

BODY FOUND: A young man was found dead in mysterious circumstances in Bath Island on Monday.

Police said that the body of Mohammad Imran, 25, was found lying on the roof top of his apartment in Gulshan-i-Faisal in Bath Island. It was shifted to the JPMC for post-mortem examination.

Hospital sources said that the victim had a bullet wound in the middle of his forehead. A pistol was also found lying close to the body.
