PESHAWAR, March 12: Additional district and sessions judge Shahid Khan on Saturday dismissed the pre-arrest bail petition of a lawyer accused of manhandling an official of the Peshawar High Court.
The petitioner, Nasir Kamal Marwat, slipped away from the court premises after the dismissal of his petition.
Mr Marwat and another lawyer, Naveed Maqsood, had allegedly manhandled a court official and interfered in his official duties in January. Mr Maqsood had been arrested soon after the occurrence and was released on bail later.
A team of lawyers headed by Barrister Zahoorul Haq and Abdul Lateef Afridi appeared for the petitioner. Barrister Zahoor cited various judgments of superior courts and argued that the offence was bailable.
According to prosecution, the two accused had entered the head vernacular clerk branch and manhandled a clerk, Noor Elahi, after an exchange of hot words. They had also allegedly thrown away various files.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) and District Bar Association (DBA) has been called on Monday to discuss the issue.
