ISLAMABAD, March 11: Former Malaysian prime minister Dr Mahathir Muhammad and Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan arrived here on Friday evening.
Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Khushro Bakhtiar received the two guests at the Chaklala Air Base.
Malaysian High Commissioner Gen M. Hasham Hussein and the Jordanian Ambassador Musa Al-Adwan were also present on the occasion.
Two children presented them bouquets.
Meanwhile, the International Islamic University (IIU) will confer degree of Doctorate of Law on former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela, former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammad and Prince Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan at the university’s convocation on Saturday.
This was stated by the IIU Rector, Justice (retired) Khalilur Rehman.
Prince Talal and Dr Mahathir will personally receive the degrees whereas special representative of Mr Mandela will collect degree on his behalf.
Prince Talal has been selected for his service especially in the field of education while Nelson Mandela for his untiring support for the right to self-determination of Kashmiri people, a press release of the university said.
More than 2000 students would be awarded degrees in the convocation being held in connection with the completion of 25 years of the university.
The university has also organized an international seminar on “Education in Muslim Ummah - Present Realities and Future Aspirations”.
On the next day of the convocation, the 17th cultural week of the university will be inaugurated by Prince Talal followed by the inauguration of Islamic world exhibition, organized by the university students, they said.
