Balochistan report finalized

Published February 26, 2005

ISLAMABAD, Feb 25: The special joint parliamentary committee on Balochistan has finalised its report which will be tabled before the National Assembly during its current session.

Sources told Dawn the committee had examined the Balochistan problem from all angles and recommended specific steps, including increase in the provincial autonomy as demanded by Baloch nationalists.

Ruling PML president Shujaat Hussain had announced the formation of a special parliamentary committee of the National Assembly and Senate during his brief stint as prime minister in August last year.

The report is ready and might be tabled in the National Assembly before the end of the first week of March, said the sources. "It (tabling of the report) will not go beyond the first week of March, but might be earlier," said a responsible government official.
