PIA struggle for runs

Published February 15, 2005

KARACHI, Feb 14: Despite half-centuries by skipper Moin Khan, Kamran Sajid and Shoaib Khan, PIA were restricted to 257 for six in their first innings by Wapda on the opening day of their Patron's Trophy match at the National Stadium on Monday.

Electing to bat first, PIA crawled to 64 for one in 29 overs by lunch before reaching 150 for two in 58 overs at tea. When play ended for the day in the four-day match, Moin was batting on 54, a knock which included six boundaries and a six. Janisar Khan was the other batsman at the crease with 11.

The left-handed Kamran had earlier made 60 with seven boundaries in 217 minutes. The enterprising Shoaib struck eight fours and a six in his 60 in a stay of 130 minutes.

Wapda's left-arm pace man Sarfraz Ahmed injured his left thumb while taking a return catch from Kamran half an hour before lunch and was unable to continue. His unfinished over was completed by fellow opening bowler Kashif Raza.
