Night train services halted in Balochistan

By Amanullah Kasi

QUETTA, Jan 25: The Railways authorities have stopped night-time train services across the Balochistan province after repeated attacks by the Balochistan Liberation Army.

Official sources told Dawn on Tuesday that the decision came after five people were wounded on Monday night when a powerful bomb blew up a section of the rail track near Sibi, about 100 km south east of Quetta.

The sources said the damaged track had been repaired and services to and from Quetta resumed. "We have changed the timings of the trains and decided they will not run after sunset," the sources said. "It was done because of security reasons."

The train services between Quetta and the rest of the country were restored after damaged portion of the railway bridge was repaired by railways engineers and staff.

An official statement issued here on Tuesday by Divisional Superintendent of the Pakistan Railways said that due to severe cold and fog train timings of all Up and Down trains had been changed with immediate effect to help passengers.

According to new timings all down trains including Quetta Express, Bolan Mail, Jaffar Express, Chiltan Express, Balochistan Express and Winter Express will leave Quetta between 1030 and 1345 hours while Up trains would reach here between 1025 and 1630 hours, covering all train operations in daylight.

The statement said that 301Up and 302Down Zarghoon passenger train will terminate at Sibi and will run between Sibi and Karachi on scheduled timings.
