GUJAR KHAN: Transporters fleece commuters

By Our Correspondent

GUJAR KHAN, Jan 24: Transporters continue to fleece the people returning to their work places after spending Eid holidays at their native abodes, while there is no authority to check the unannounced over charging by the transporters.

The transporters started charging Rs40 instead of Rs20 on Rawalpindi-Gujar Khan route Sunday evening. Similarly, Rs15 was being charged between Gujar Khan and Mandra against the prescribed fare of less than Rs5.

The commuters who remained stuck at the Gujar Khan wagon terminal for hours due to artificial shortage of vehicles criticized the local administration for its failure to check highhandedness on part of transporters. They regretted that there was nobody to register and redress their complaints. They urged the Rawalpindi district nazim to intervene and resolve their grievances.
