Saudi Arabia offers to host OIC summit

MINA, Jan 23: Saudi Arabia urged the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on Friday to organize a meeting of Muslim leaders in the kingdom that would seek to heal rifts in the Islamic world.

"I address my brethren the leaders of Muslim countries through you so that we can overcome, with our faith in God ... the state of dismemberment and fragmentation" among Muslims, said Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz.

He was speaking at a reception for the heads of delegations of pilgrims. Abdullah, whose remarks were reported by the SPA news agency, called on Malaysia, chairman of the OIC, to organize the summit. -AFP
