Gen Abiz aid calls on Musharraf


ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: General John P. Abizaid, Commander-in-Chief of the United States Central Command, who is currently on an official visit to Pakistan, called on President Gen Pervez Musharraf at the Aiwan-i-Sadr here on Monday.

Welcoming the dignitary, the president recalled excellent relations that existed between armed forces of Pakistan and the United Sates. He wished Gen Abizaid a pleasant and professionally rewarding stay in the country.

He expressed the hope that the US general's visit would help further strengthen excellent relations between the armies of the two countries. They also exchanged views on the international and regional geo-strategic situation.

Gen Abizaid thanked the President and the Pakistan Army for the hospitality being extended to him and members of the delegation. He termed his interaction with the military leadership in Pakistan excellent. US Ambassador to Pakistan, and other officers were also present during the meeting.

Earlier, the Centcom Commander visited the General Headquarters and met Vice Chief of the Army Staff General Ahsan Saleem Hayat. They exchanged views on matters of professional interest. -APP
