Quarantine pact

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 24: Pakistan and China have finalized draft quarantine agreements for facilitating the trading of agro-based products between the two countries.

An official source told Dawn on Friday that the two countries have already signed an agreement on mango which would relax the Chinese quarantine restrictions on export of the Pakistani produce to that country.

A similar draft agreement for the rice has been finalized by the technical committees of the two countries, which was expected to be signed during the Chinese premier visit to Pakistan in the next two months, added the official.

According to the official, for each product Pakistan would have to negotiate with China relaxation in the quarantine standards.
