Gallant knock by Moin

Published December 22, 2004

KARACHI, Dec 21: Pace trio Shahid Nazir, Sami Niazi and Ahmed Hayat bundled out Karachi Whites (KW) for 164 in their first innings on the opening day of their four-day Quaid-i-Azam Trophy match at National Stadium on Tuesday.

KW recovered from a dismal 96 for six wickets thanks to a fighting half century by captain Moin Khan after they were inserted to bat first on a lively track. By draw of stumps, Faisalabad responded by reaching 93 for three wickets in their first innings. Khurram Shahzad with 19 and Imran Khalid were at the crease when play ended for the day. Faisalabad are 71 runs behind with seven wickets intact.

Faisalabad captain Misbahul Haq hit an enterprising 25 with six powerful boundaries before being caught by Faisal off Aftab Malik. Former Test paceman Shahid Nazir caused the early damage with his opening ball bursts in which he took three wickets in his first three overs.

Sami Niazi gave Faisalabad initial breakthrough when he had opener Agha Sabir caught behind by keeper Muhammad Zaman for 7 and later Shahid Nazir triggered the slide in KW batting ranks

Former Pakistan captain Moin stopped the rout with a brilliant 54 off 100 balls with his hits to the boundary. Faisalabad bowlers got good support from their wicket-keeper Muhammad Zaman, who held five catches.
