PESHAWAR: NWFP burns 'obscene' posters, videos

PESHAWAR, Dec 18: The NWFP government torched thousands of confiscated condom posters, video cassettes and compact discs (CDs) in a campaign against 'obscenity', officials said.

The government officials destroyed what they described as "material morally corrupting the people through obscene and sexually provocative pictures".

Since coming to power the MMA has banned music in public transport and barred pictures of women on commercial billboards in the province.

Provincial Minister for Religious Affairs Maulana Amanullah Haqqani set the material on fire on the outskirts of Peshawar.

The material was confiscated from shops in Peshawar's famous Bara Market.-AFP
