KARACHI, Dec 14: Trucking business continues as usual on Mauripur Road in Karachi south-west despite a ban imposed on it some years ago by the authorities concerned in a move to improve traffic position.

Goods carriers operating from the old truck stand along the route and some parts of old town areas had been allotted alternate site on Hawkesbay Road to enable them to shift their business. They violated the agreement by continuing their operations despite frequent warnings issued to them by the authorities and protests made by area people.

A visit to the locality shows that transporters are still using parking and godown facilities at the old truck stand on Mauripur Road creating traffic jams despite the fact that they had been allotted a new site a few years ago at Hawkesbay Road in Keamari Town for loading and unloading purpose.

Truckers are occupying the area right from Ghulaman-i-Abass School up to People's Playground where they park their vehicles illegally. At some places, they are availing the loading and unloading facilities despite a ban imposed on such activity in the locality.

The worst affected people due to the round-the-clock activity of transporters are the residents of Baloch Para along the Mauripur Road. A resident of the locality said that the truckers often violate all traffic rules while parking their vehicles in the haphazard way.

Due to these vehicles parked in the narrow streets of this congested locality, the residents complain that they could not move freely and women and children face a lot of problems while going down the streets.

Area people urged the government to stop trucking activity in the narrow streets of Darayabad Union Council area of Lyari Town and remove all the ecroachments erected by the transporters.
