KARACHI, Dec 14: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of Karsaz flyover to be constructed at the junction of Habib Ibrahim Rehmatullah Road and Sharea Faisal.
The flyover would be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs136 million under Tameer-i-Karachi Programme and would be completed within a year. The 5.10 metres high and 64 metres long flyover would lessen the traffic load on Sharea Faisal and Habib Ibrahim Rehmatullah Road.
The flyover would consist of four traffic lanes, 2,700sq-metre footpath and 1,060metre-long storm drain. There would be 50 lights on both sides of 25 poles on the flyover.
Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony, Naimatullah Khan said that this flyover would help in making Sharea Faisal a signal free zone and added that the city government would undertake development in the coming six months that were not even done in the past three years.
He said that the feasibility regarding tunnel to be constructed through the hills in North Nazimabad was underway and the construction work would soon be initiated. "The tunnel would be a historical gift for Karachiites by the city government," he remarked.
The nazim further said that the project of FTC and Stadium Road underpasses were also being reviewed after which the development of Ghareebabad underpass would be started.
He said that work was rapidly in progress at some major model parks and mini model parks in 178 union councils in the city while eight model parks had already been inaugurated. The masses have appreciated this step and people belonging to all age groups were being benefited with these parks, he claimed.
Naimatullah Khan said that development was underway in all towns without any discrimination. He further said that three roads were being constructed in Lyari Town. In F B Area, he said, the city government had decided to establish a cardiovascular hospital, as a number of cardiac patients expired in the way to the JPMC and the NICVD.
He said that the OPD would start functioning at the aforementioned hospital by January 2005 while essential equipment was being purchased with an amount of Rs30 million. The city government will also set up eight chest centres to provide immediate medical aid to heart patients. -PPI
