PESHAWAR: No let-up in anti-terror campaign - governor

PESHAWAR, Dec 3: NWFP governor Lt-Gen (Retd) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah said on Friday that the government was determined to capture foreign terrorists hiding in different parts of the tribal areas.

"The miscreants are our enemy and causing severe damage to the integrity and solidarity of the country," the governor said while addressing the passing out parade of the Khasadar Force at Ghallanai in Mohmand Agency.

The governor said that the terrorists were engaged in a battle against Islam and Pakistan and had turned down every offer of the government that also included a general amnesty. "Had they responded positively to our offer, they themselves would have benefited from it," he said.

He said that professional training was being given to the Khasadars to make them a disciplined force. The government wanted to make it an effective force in order to lessen the burden on the Frontier Corps which could concentrate on its prime duty of protecting the borders, the governor added.

He announced an increase in fringe benefits for the Khasadar force and said that their salaries and other facilities would also be enhanced. The governor also awarded trophies to the Khasadars who had achieved distinction during the training.

Secretary to the Governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmed, MNA Ghulam Sadiq, and Commandant of Mohmand Rifles Col Mohammad Khalid Butt accompanied the governor during the tour. -APP
