Aziz's visit to Eidgah irks residents

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Nov 17: The law-enforcement agencies adopted strict security measures around Asghar Mall and Saidpur Road and prevented residents from entering their homes to ensure security for Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday night.

Police closed thoroughfares on Saidpur Road, Asghar Mall and Eidgah to set up vehicle checkpoints, creating a huge security parameter around Eid Gah where the prime minister visited a religious personality from 9pm to 11:15pm.

Checkpoints were set up, police squads patrolled the streets and policemen were deployed at each corner, preventing people from going in or coming out of their homes.

Shops were forcibly closed by policemen and streetlights were switched off and a family was not even allowed to shift a patient to hospital. Every person trying to enter the street was stopped by the traffic police and ordered to go somewhere else. The traffic remained jammed on various roads due to the VVIP movement.
