KARACHI: 5 policemen deprived of official weapons

KARACHI, Nov 3: Five policemen have been deprived of their official weapons in separate incidents since late Tuesday night in different parts of the city.
One of the policemen was shot in the head when he tried to resist the armed suspects who were snatching his weapon in Korangi on Wednesday evening.
Police said that police constable Mohammad Idress, 45, was on his duty at Chamra Chowrangi in Korangi Industrial Area on Wednesday evening when two suspects on a motorcycle pulled up and tried to snatch his official SMG. On his resistance, the suspects shot him in the head and took away his AK-47 rifle and several rounds.
The policeman was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was admitted in a critical condition.
On early Wednesday morning, two police constables were deprived of their official weapon in the Soldier Bazar police limits.
Police said that PC Naveed Anwer and Farhan Maqsood approached a suspicious vehicle parked near a marriage garden at Nishtar Road. As the policemen questioned the young men, they pulled out their weapons disarming the two policemen of their AK- 47 rifle and a TT pistol along with several rounds and escaped.
Earlier, on late Tuesday night two policemen were patrolling on their official motorcycle near Gulshan-i-Maymar where they were deprived of their weapons and vehicle at gunpoint.
Police said that constables Fida Husain and Zulfiqar Ali were on their motorcycle (HM-1544) when two suspects intercepted them near Solangi Goth, Ahsanabad.
They deprived the two policemen of their SMGs and 30 rounds and escaped in the cover of darkness. Subsequently, the two policemen were put behind bars and a case pertaining to negligence was lodged against them.
ACCIDENT: A young motorcyclist died in a road accident in Korangi Industrial Area on Wednesday evening.
Police said that Azeem Ahmed, 30, was on his motorcycle when a speeding truck knocked him down near Jam Sadiq Ali Bridge. His body was shifted to the JPMC for postmortem examination. The victim was a goldsmith and father of two children, police added.
CRUSHED: An unidentified man was crushed to death beneath a locomotive near Drig Railway Station on Wednesday evening.
Police said that the victim was crossing over the train tracks when a locomotive crushed him to death. His body was shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities.
