LAHORE: Reply sought on fashion show at Lahore Fort

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Nov 3: The Environment Protection Tribunal on Wednesday sought reply from the Punjab Archaeology director-general and Lahore Fort north circle director on an application against allowing a fashion show in the Lahore Fort by Nov 8.

Eco Watch Trust counsel Muhammad Iqbal Ghaznavi said in his application that his petition pertaining to the decay of historic monuments, including the Lahore Fort, due to the neglect of government departments concerned was pending adjudication before the tribunal and the respondents had been directed to appear in person on Nov 8 to explain their position in this regard.

The counsel submitted that he had learnt from a newspaper report that respondents had allowed the holding of a fashion show at the Jehangir Quadrangle of the Lahore Fort on Wednesday night.

Driving of nails and hooks for installation of lights and raising the canopies was likely to damage the walls and floors of the heritage building which required to be protected against all kinds of vandalism. He said vibration caused by the generators and musical instruments was also likely to harm the ancient monument.
