KHAIRPUR, Oct 14: Gambat police registered a gang-rape case on Thursday against six officials of the Gambat police.

Husna Khatoon, mother of victim Afshan, alleged in her FIR that on Oct 7, additional SHO Ghulam Mohammad Channa, SI Amanullah Mirani, head constable Azam Junejo, and constables Mohammad Ali Narejo, Haji Khuhro and Rasheed Kalhoro, forcibly took away two young girls, Afshan and Basheeran, from their house, lodged them in the house of the sub-inspector, and raped them.

The accused also snatched gold ornaments and wristwatches, she added. DPO Imran Yaqoob Minhas has suspended the six policemen named in the FIR as well as SHO Ghulam Murtaza Mirani, and has appointed Gambat TPO enquiry officer in the matter. However, no arrest has been made so far.

DISTRICT COUNCIL: The district council condemned the water shortage in Sindh at its meeting held here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Rasoolabad union council Nazim Abdul Aziz Bhambhro alleged that an artificial shortage of water for irrigation purpose had been created in Sindh, which was affecting its rural economy.

He said that 80 per cent of the land falling at tail-end of water channels did not receive water in Sindh. He alleged that more water than Punjab's share was being released into Taunsa, Jhelum, Chashma and other canals of the province from the Indus river, which was causing shortage in Sindh.

On a point of order, Awam Dost Panel member Ghazala Siyal said that the executive district officer of the education department had been suspended on corruption charge three months ago but he had again been posted in the district.

However, Khairpur Dost Panel members, Nisar Bhambhro, Khadim Mirani, Shahzad Ali Shah Jilani, and others supported the EDO, which led to an exchange of hot words between the two groups.
