KARACHI, Oct 6: The University of Karachi has enhanced remuneration against examination related works at the affiliated colleges by 20 to 70 per cent.
The controller of examinations, Anwar A. Zaidi, said that the revision in the remuneration rates had been approved by the vice- chancellor.
He expressed hope that senior teachers would show more interest in undertaking exams related assignments. The new rates would be effective from degree level exams this year, he added.
The paper setters of all graduate level examinations, including BA, BSc (pass), BCom, BEd, LLB, DDLS will get Rs500 instead of Rs400 for each paper, while the MA, MSc, MED and other Master level would get Rs600 instead of Rs500.
Teachers involved in the assessment of answer scripts of degree level examinations will get Rs24 instead of Rs14 per script, while master examinations assessors will get Rs24 per script instead of Rs16.
Mr Zaidi said that an increase of Rs25 had been made in the rates of remuneration of the head-examiners and internal or external examiners per shift or per day for practical, laboratory assistants, lab assistant and filed collectors would also get an enhanced payment.
The rates of invigilation will be as follows: Head invigilator or centre superintendent Rs650, deputy head invigilators or factotum Rs600 and invigilators of lecturer grade will get Rs500, while those below grade-17 will get Rs250. A vigilance officer will get Rs500 per day.
According to the controller, the university would expect from the teachers that they would carry out the assessment works within the stipulated dates so that delay in the compilation and release of examination results could be averted.
In the meantime, the university has asked college principals to forward a list of teaching staff members of their respective colleges who are interested in taking part in invigilation and vigilance so that those could be considered for degree level annual examinations starting from Nov 25.
ADMISSION PROCESS: The process of admissions to various departments of science, arts, commerce and pharmacy faculties at the University of Karachi is likely to start in the third week of October, adds PPI.
This was stated by the director of admission committee, Dr Muhammad Ishaq. He said that the admission policy would be placed before the academic council of the university for approval.
If things went right admission process would commence in the third week with the sale of admission forms and prospectus through banks, he said, adding that admissions to masters classes would be offered in the first phase and those of the honours classes in the later phase.
Meanwhile, the chairman of KU's computer science department, Dr Nasir Touheed, announced that the last date for submission of admission forms for BSCS/BSSE programme in the morning and evening shifts has been extended up to Oct 8.
DATE EXTENDED: The examination department of the University of Karachi on Wednesday announced that the annual examination-2004 of Diploma in Child Health has been extended to Oct 15.
Forms will be accepted with a late fee of Rs200 up to Oct 14. The date for commencement of examination will be announced later. The university has extended the date for submission of admission forms for the BSCS/BSSE programme for morning and evening shifts till Oct 8. The aptitude test will be held on Oct 10 at 3pm.
