LAHORE, Sept 13: PPP women legislators protested on Monday that Deputy Speaker Shaukat Mazari did not give them time to speak on the resolution adopted by the house though they had opposed it.
The resolution asked Gen Pervez Musharraf not to take off his uniform in larger national interest. MPA Azma Bokhari told reporters after the opposition walked out of the house that she would lodge a protest with the speaker in his chamber for ignoring women members in the discussion on the resolution.
It may be mentioned that the chair had allowed only three members each from the treasury and the opposition benches to speak on the resolution, quoting relevant rules that it had the right to curtail the discussion at any stage.
Earlier, when Rana Sanaullah was speaking against the resolution saying that Gen Musharraf could be disqualified from presidency under clause 63-1-D of the Constitution, Mr Mazari intervened commenting "provided the Constitution is not further amended."
Rana Sana picked it saying that was what they were demanding. However, the chair sensed the sensitivity of the comments and clarified that it was not a ruling and that this had been stated only as part of the discussion.
