PA wants Umrah flights restored

Published September 14, 2004

PESHAWAR, Sept 13: The NWFP Assembly on Monday passed a resolution unanimously demanding that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) restore special Umrah flights to Saudi Arabia from Peshawar.

The resolution was tabled by Mufti Nizam-ud-Din of MMA. Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan was in the chair. The resolution also demanded that PIA exempt those pilgrims who had obtained visa before the decision to increase the fare. The increase in fare is effective from Sept 15.

He said the cancellation of PIA's special flights for Umrah from Peshawar had created a lot of problems for the pilgrims of the province. Mufti Nizam-ud-Din's contention was supported by Abdul Akbar Khan, parliamentary leader of PPPP.

The resolution was tabled after Speaker Bakht Jahan Khan, on the demand of the house, suspended the rules of business to discuss Mufti Nizam-ud-Din's resolution, which was passed unanimously. -APP
